It also manages pension and retirement funds; provides insurance and insurance advisory services; and offers telephone banking and Internet banking services. The company invests in the securities issued by the Argentine and other governments, and private issuers. As of December 31, 2004, it operated a network of 227 branches and 512 automatic teller machines in 23 provinces of Argentina, as well as in the city of Buenos Aires. The company was founded in 1886. It was formerly known as Banco Frances del Rio de la Plata S.A. and changed its name to BBVA Banco Frances S.A. in 2000. The company is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. BBVA Banco Frances S.A. is a majority owned subsidiary of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A.
