It operates through three segments: Energy, Industrial and Specialty, and Communications. The Energy segment provides low-, medium-, and high-voltage power distribution and power transmission products. The Industrial and Specialty segment provides wire and cable products that conduct electrical current for industrial, commercial, and residential power and control applications. It offers rubber and plastic insulated portable cord products, low-voltage and data transmission cables, rail and mass transit cables, shipboard cables, off-shore cables, and other cables and industrial cables that meet low-smoke, zero-halogen requirements in Europe. The Industrial and Specialty segment also offers ignition wire sets for sale to the automotive aftermarket. The Communications segment provides wire and cable products that transmit low-voltage signals for voice, data, video, and control applications. It offers outside voice and data products, which include outside plant telecommunications exchange cable and service wire; data communication products, including high-bandwidth twisted copper and fiber optic cables, and multiconductor cables for customer premises, local area networks, and telephone company central offices; and electronics products, such as speaker and television lead wire, high temperature and shielded electronic wire, and multiconductor, multipair, coaxial, hook-up, audio, and microphone cables; and OEM products, including harnesses and assemblies for telecommunication, industrial, and medical equipment manufacturers. The company operates in North America, Europe, and Oceania. General Cable Corporation was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
