The company offers its marine transportation services to inland and offshore barge operators, oil service companies, petrochemical companies, offshore fishing companies, other marine transportation entities. The Diesel Engine Services segment engages in the overhaul and repair of diesel engines and reduction gears, and related parts sales. The company sells original equipment manufacturers replacement parts; provides service mechanics to overhaul and repair engines and reduction gears; and maintains facilities to rebuild component parts or entire engines and entire reduction gears. It serves the marine market and stand-by power generation market; certain transit railroad markets; components for the nuclear industry; and other industrial markets, such as cement, paper, and mining worldwide. The company was incorporated in 1969. It was formerly known as Kirby Exploration Company, Inc. and changed its name to Kirby Corporation in 1990. Kirby Corporation is based in Houston, Texas.
