It also provides short-to-long haul movement of containers by truck, power-only truck capacity, and truck brokerage. Multimodal segment offers transportation services, including the arrangement of intermodal moves, contract logistics, truck brokerage, and emergency and expedited ground, air, and ocean freight. Insurance segment reinsures property, casualty, and occupational accident risks of independent contractors who have contracted to haul freight for Landstar. The company provides transportation services to various industries, including iron and steel, automotive products, paper, lumber and building products, aluminum, chemicals, foodstuffs, heavy machinery, retail, electronics, ammunition and explosives, and military hardware, as well as logistic and less-than-truckload service providers. Landstar markets its services through independent commission sales agents, independent contractors, and other third party truck capacity providers. The company was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida.
