It offers atherosclerosis products, which include Zocor; hypertension/heart failure products, including Cozaar, Hyzaar, and Vasotec; anti-inflammatory/analgesics, agents that specifically inhibit the COX-2 enzyme, which is responsible for pain and inflammation; an osteoporosis product, Fosamax, for treatment and prevention of osteoporosis; a respiratory product, Singulair, a leukotriene receptor antagonist for treatment of asthma and for relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis; vaccines/biologicals, a live virus vaccine of chickenpox and hepatitis B vaccine; anti-bacterial/anti-fungal products, which include Primaxin, Cancidas, and Invanz; a urology product, Proscar, for treatment of symptomatic benign prostate enlargement; and HIV products, including Stocrin and Crixivan for the treatment of human immunodeficiency viral infection in adults. Its other products include Maxalt, for the treatment of acute migraine headaches in adults; and Propecia, for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Merck & Co. has a collaboration agreement with Celera Diagnostics to develop treatments for Alzheimer's disease; and with Foxhollow Technologies, Inc. to focus on analyzing atherosclerotic plaque removed from patient arteries as a means of identifying biomarkers of atherosclerotic disease progression for use in the development of cardiovascular compounds. The company sells its products to drug wholesalers and retailers; hospitals; clinics; government agencies; and managed health care providers, such as health maintenance organizations and other institutions through its professional representatives. Merck & Co. was established in 1891 and is headquartered in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
