The company operates in two segments, Propane Operations and Midstream Operations. The Propane Operations segment sells propane, propane-related appliances, and distillate products. It also involves in providing service work for propane-related equipment; wholesale distribution of propane; and offering marketing and price risk management services to other users, retailers, and resellers of propane. The Midstream Operations segment's activities include storage of natural gas liquids for third parties, as well as fractionation, processing, and distribution of natural gas liquids. It provides wholesale supply, marketing, and distribution services to independent dealers, multistate marketers, petrochemical companies, refinery and gas processors, and other natural gas liquid marketing and distribution companies in the United States. As of November 1, 2005, the company distributed propane to approximately 700,000 customers through 342 customer service centers in 29 states. Inergy was formed in 2001 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
