Natural Resource Partners LP (the partnership) primarily engages in the ownership and management of coal properties in Appalachia, the Illinois Basin, and the Powder River Basin in the United States. The partnership leases its properties to coal mine operators in exchange for royalty payments. It controlled approximately 1.8 billion tons of proven and probable coal reserves, as of December 31, 2004. It also sells standing timber.
