It primarily underwrites commercial fire, earthquake, builders' risk, difference in conditions, and other inland marine coverages, as well as selected personal lines policies in the state of Hawaii. It also provides coverage for a range of commercial and industrial risks, such as office buildings, apartments, condominiums, industrial and mercantile structures, buildings under construction, and movable equipment. The Surety segment specializes in writing small to large commercial and small contract surety products, as well as those for the energy, petrochemical, and refining industries. It provides products through its branch offices primarily in the United States. The company was founded in 1965 and is headquartered in Peoria, Illinois.
