The company's funeral service locations provide various professional services relating to funerals, including the use of funeral facilities, motor vehicles, and preparation and embalming services. Its funeral service locations sell caskets, burial vaults, cremation receptacles, flowers, burial garments, and other ancillary products and services. SCI's cemeteries sell interment rights associated with cemetery properties, such as mausoleum spaces, lots, and lawn crypts; cemetery merchandise, such as stone and bronze memorials, burial vaults, caskets, and cremation memorialization products; operate crematoria; and provide other services, including merchandise installations, and burial openings and closings. In addition, it performs interment services and provides management and maintenance of cemetery grounds. SCI also provides mass fatality and emergency response services. As of March 31, 2005, the company operated 1,190 funeral service locations and 393 cemeteries. SCI was incorporated in 1962. SCI was founded by R. L. Waltrip in 1962. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
