The company operates in Government and Commercial segments. The Government segment includes tactical data links, tactical networking and information assurance (TNIA), and mobile satellite communication systems (MSCS). Tactical data links product line consists of multifunction information distribution system, which enables data networking among ground and airborne military users providing an electronic picture of the battlefield to each user in the network. TNIA products include information security and ViaSat Data Controller products that enable military and government communicators to secure information. MSCS primarily consist of stand-alone and embedded satellite modems, terminals, and test and training equipment. The Commercial segment provides consumer broadband, mobile broadband, and enterprise very small aperture terminal (VSAT) products. Its consumer broadband products include the development of data over cable service interface specification-based and digital video broadcast-return channel satellite broadband systems; mobile broadband products include airborne, maritime, and ground mobile terminals and systems; and enterprise VSAT satellite communication products and services comprises a range of terminals, hubs, and networks control systems. In addition, this segment provides antenna systems and designs monolithic microwave integrated circuits, packaged components, and modules. The company sells its products through its direct sales force, as well as through strategic relationships primarily to Department of Defense, other U.S. government agencies and departments, satellite network integrators, and large communications service providers. ViaSat was incorporated in 1986 and is headquartered in Carlsbad, California.
